Rakhine State formerly Arakan, 14,200 Square Miles (36,762 Sq km), west myanmar extending along the Bay of Bengal. It lies at the foot of the Arakan mountain range, which rises to 10,016 ft (3, 053m) at Mount Victoria. The capital is sittwe. The Arakanese or Rakhine who are of Burmese stock with strong Indian influences are mostly engaged in intension rice cultivation, they are Buddhists.
All products from Rakhine can be found at the Myoma Market in the town of sittwe such as salted fish and dried fish paste. The Thandwe market is also popular. The port is located at Pon Nar Island. In Myauk Oo town, the popular markets are Nyaungbin market, Ngachauk market and Ahlae (Middle) market.
Sittwe can be reached by air and boat from Yangon. Magway-Ann Lann, Pyi-Baden-Ahnlan and Pyi-Taungkoke are accessible by road. The bus terminal at Aung Mingalar in Yangon has coaches for travel to Sittwe ie Aung Thit Sar, Aung Yadana, King Star among the companies providing coaches. Places like Kyauk Taw, Minpya, Myauk Oo, Myay Pon, Pauk Taw, Pon Narr Island, Ya Thaè mountain, Kyauk Phyu, Ahn, Man Aung, Bu Thee Taung, Maungdaw etc can be travelled by boat.The famous unspoilt Ngapali Beach located in Rakhine State, stretching along the Bay of Bengal is noted for its clean acqua blue water and the sandy beach shore. Mrauk U, or the ancient city of the Rakhine Dynasty is also a popular destination in this state.
