UMW’s roots began in 1917 as an auto repair shop in Orchard Road, Singapore. The business which was known then as United Motor Works quickly bloomed, making it the go-to place for auto repairs. Not long after, it managed to procure the distributorship for automotive parts under General Motors, a household name in the automotive industry in America.

In 1927 the rapidly expanding business was consolidated into an establishment called United Motor Works Pte Ltd - a predecessor of the UMW Group you see today.

The UMW Group has since grown into a multi million-dollar industrial conglomerate and one of Malaysia’s foremost public-listed companies. We continuously build upon our strengths in Manufacturing, Distribution and Services to expand our horizons in the Automotive, Equipment, Manufacturing & Engineering and Aerospace sectors.
